Postmates becomes the official on-demand food delivery partner of the NFL

The National Football League is naming Postmates as its very first on-demand food delivery partner.

In this context, a partnership means a multiyear sponsorship, which also makes Postmates a sponsor of the Super Bowl. And as the season kicks off with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans, Postmates is teaming up with the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes (through his foundation 15 and the Mahomies) and the Texans’ Deshaun Watson, with each quarterback arranging for meal delivery to frontline health workers in their opponent’s home town.

This seems like a particularly appropriate year for a food delivery partnership, since most fans will be watching games from home, rather than at a stadium or their local sports bar, as the NFL’s vice president of business development Nana-Yaw Asamoah noted in a statement.

“Fans will be watching NFL football this season from their couch more than ever before, so teaming up with Postmates as the first official on-demand food delivery partner of the NFL was a perfect combination,” Asamoah said. “We’re excited for Postmates to bring an NFL experience directly to our fans’ doorsteps throughout the season and around the year.”

Postmates previously partnered with individual Major League Baseball teams, including the Dodgers and the Yankees. The food delivery company is also being acquired by Uber, in a deal that’s expected to close next year.

Uber confirms it is acquiring Postmates in an all-stock, $2.65B deal

JetBrains launches Code With Me EAP for distributed collaboration

JetBrains has announced an early access program (EAP) for its Code With Me tool. Code With Me is a service in IntelliJ IDEA that allows developers to share open projects in the IDE with distributed team members.

Using Code With Me, team members will be able to quickly access others’ code to help investigate issues, review, and work on your code together. Other IntelliJ IDEA features like code completion, smart navigation, refactoring, the built-in terminal, and the debugging suite, are all available while using Code With Me.

Example use cases for Code With Me include pair programming, mentoring, and swam programming, which is when developers simultaneously code together in a single IDE, JetBrains explained.

Currently, 20 developers including the host can participate in a single session, though active code editing is limited to five participants at a time.

To participate in the EAP, developers can install the Code With Me plugin through the JetBrians Marketplace to the latest version of any JetBrains IDE.

According to JetBrains, Code With Me is expected to be released with one of the upcoming major releases of JetBrains IDEs, though a date has not yet been set.

Hear from the CEO Porsche Cars North America on electrifying the sports car

Few electric cars made a bigger splash than the new Porsche Taycan. As President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Klaus Zellmer has the tall order of bringing the electric sedan to America and selling it against Tesla on Tesla’s home turf. He also oversees Porsche’s digital assets in the U.S. market namely the customer portal My Porsche and a digital sales platform — a critical test in the era of Covid-19.

We invited Zellmer to speak at TechCrunch Sessions: Mobility due to his unique positioning inside Porsche. He’s well-suited to speak on a variety of topics critical to founders, engineers, and venture capitalists within the mobility space.

Many see Porsche well positioned to be a key player in electric vehicles and the Taycan is just the start. As CEO of Porsche Cars North America Zellmer can speak directly to the challenges and opportunities facing automakers and startups alike in the North American market.

Likewise, as the President and CEO of Porsche Digital, Zellmer has deep insights into the user experience expectations of today’s drivers including online sales. As Covid-19 continues to strain retail, dealerships are feeling strains as well. More customers are turning to online dealerships — something Zellmer can speak directly to.

Porsche Digital launched its first US-based operations in Silicon Valley in 2017 and later expanded to Atlanta in 2019. When writing about the Atlanta opening in 2019, TechCrunch writer Darrell Etherington noted that Porsche maintains facilities in global hubs of tech talent and speculated that the company uses these facilities for attracting engineering talent and potential acquisitions of complementary early-stage companies.

We hope you can join our talk with Zellmer at TechCrunch Sessions: Mobility 2020. The event is virtual this year, therefore making it more accessible to attendees from around the world. Zellmer joins other mobility executives including Bryan Salesky of Argo AI, Peter Rawlinson of Lucid Motors, and Tekedra Mawakana of Waymo.

DevOps World 2020: The future of distributed work

A couple years ago we laughed at the BBC broadcast when a bunch of children ran in and interrupted their dad’s live interview, but today that is becoming the norm. It’s no longer uncommon for people’s children and pets to pop in on meetings and calls.

Businesses are beginning to realize they will not be able to return to a 100% normal working environment. “If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we got to be creative about when we work, how we work, and where we work. This has been an opportunity to rethink all those processes organizationally,” said James Governor, co-founder of RedMonk, a developer-focused industry analyst firm.

Governor presented a keynote at this week’s DevOps World 2020 on the future of work beyond the pandemic.

According to Governor, just as applications and solutions have had to become more distributed to remain competitive and keep up with modern advancements, the future of work is now going to have to go through some of those same changes. “The future of work is distributed. The future of work is not everybody always having to go into the office,” he said.

Companies like Salesforce and Google have already announced they don’t have plans to return to an office until 2021. Banking company Barclays also revealed they don’t see a return to normality when it comes to people returning to the office.

The decisions businesses make in 2020 about how they are going to proceed are going to have serious impacts on their ability to succeed moving forward, Governor explained.

For instance, Governor spoke about a German automotive company that found themselves not being able to test the software necessary to use and build cars at the beginning of the pandemic because all their test infrastructure was on premises. Without a move to become more remote and digital, the company would no longer be able to operate.

Silicon Valley has been a magnet for talent and companies have provided campuses for their employees. Governor believes businesses there will have to rethink how to recruit and retain talent. Eight months ago, most software development job listings would require you to relocate, and now they are turning to telework options, he said.

However distributed work environments don’t have to be looked at as a downside or challenge. Governor believes it is a better and more human way of working.

CloudBees released The Future of Remote Work and Software Development at the conference, which looked at the impact the pandemic was having on software delivery and how virtual work came into play. The report found 59% of respondents are finding software teams are becoming somewhat or significantly more productive. Forty-two percent find it easier to complete work tasks in a timely manner; and 61% found it was easier to work across time zones.

“The responses underscore how IT organizations aren’t sitting back during COVID-19 – businesses are asking IT to be more strategic and teams are taking steps to increase cross-company collaboration and become more efficient at software delivery,” said Shawn Ahmed, senior vice president and general manager of software delivery automation for CloudBees.

As far as going to events, while everyone is missing the ability to connect and network in person, Governor looks at virtual conferences from an accessibility point. People who are single parents, or have a disability, maybe are in a wheelchair, or even across the country now have the ability to attend these events.

“2020 can possibly, if we’re intentional about it, be a trigger for a more inclusive world of work, and [an] all inclusive industry,” said Governor.

The way he believes we can be intentional about it is to start thinking about platforms and processes, and flexibility in terms of when work is expected to be done.

The industry needs a single platform moving forward that includes observability, troubleshooting, feature flags, infrastructure as code, compliance, and the ability to track changes and understand what is going on, Governor explained.

The businesses that don’t adopt more of a remote structure, and try to force employees back into the office are going to struggle over the next couple of years, he added.

“The last 20-25 years has really been about the rise of distributed systems. The next 20-25 years is going to be the rise of distributed work,” Governor said. “The most successful communities are going to be those that can really work together effectively at scale across geographical boundaries, across boundaries of time and space, being able to be asynchronous That’s one of the charms is just finding ways we can collaborate more effectively and it isn’t, I know one thing, in the office.”

Over $4,000 for three days’ work a month

Smart marketers realize that coaching is made much more difficult by the need to schedule your time with that of your client

If your client works full-time (not to mention being in another country) it’s often tricky trying to co-ordinate a time to jump on a Skype call that is convenient for both of you…

…especially if you’ve allocated one day a week for the next 4 weeks to run your coaching program over.

There is a simpler way…

It will also bring a lump sum into your account AND makes it easier on both you and your client when it comes to arranging coaching times

It’s this:

Sell slots.

I’ve done this in the past and plan to do it very soon again.

Here’s how it’s done…

If you charge $200 an hour for your time, you should create a site that you can open each month where your clients can pre-book your time.

So $200 would buy one hour of your time

$1000 would buy 6 hours (you throw in an extra hour for bulk booking)

The beauty is that these slots can be redeemable over whatever period you choose – a month, three months, a year…

It’s up to you.

All you need to do is use an online diary such as so your customers can schedule online when they want to use their hours with you.

Of course, you can block off times when you don’t want to work too.

If you wish you can allocate just three days per month in one go to work with your clients or you can schedule out the equivalent of three days work over the whole month working just an hour a day or so.

Personally I like to get into the ‘mindset’ of coaching and work multiple hours per day.

It’s up to you

If you work the equivalent of just THREE days per month (at seven hours per day) you’d bring in $4,200 at $200 an hour.

Of course, you could also sell hours on an ongoing basis as part of a funnel or upsell structure and let your clients redeem their time at any point up to (for example) 18 months in the future.

Remember you’re getting paid at the time of the booking they book – you don’t have to wait until they redeem their time to bank the money.

It’s a wonderfully flexible and relaxed attitude to coaching in my opinion and even better, it allows your clients to prepare for their hour, and to use them at key points within their business expansion.

They might want an hour’s brainstorm with you initially and then implement your suggestions before coming back 3 weeks later to discuss their results.

Flexibility makes for great coaching and successful clients.

AND lump sums in your account when you need them by selling your time upfront.

Traffic Ivy Review

Hello there and welcome to my Traffic Ivy review.

I like to repeat this one sentence on my blog a lot. Traffic is the lifeblood of any direct marketing campaign.

If you have an affiliate website, a blog, e-comm store, or any other piece of online property, you need tons of real traffic to earn a decent living.

Otherwise, your site, blog, etc. is going to collect the dust and slowly disintegrate in a vast network that we call the internet.

So what is the solution? Is there any software that could help you to get more traffic?

Yes, there is, and it’s called Traffic Ivy.

But is it any good? Is it the best way to free traffic?

In this Traffic Ivy review, I’m going to show you what exactly Cindy Donovan’s software is all about, and I’ll share my experience with the software too.

By the end of this review, I’ll share my conclusion and some valuable tips too!

As the smartphone market declines, 5G models are set to see continued growth in 2020

Things have gone from bad to worse for a stumbling smartphone market in 2020. Already plateauing and decline figures have taken a big hit from COVID-19. The pandemic has hampered sales of non-essential items, particularly those best enjoyed outside of the home. According to new figures from Canalys, smartphone shipments are set to experience a 10.7% decline for the year.

There are a couple of silver linings worth noting. For starters, 5G adoption continues to growth. The firm projects that some 280 million units will be shipped in 2020, with the Greater China market making up a majority at 62% of the total figure, thanks in part to lower cost devices like the Realme V3, which retails for less than $150 U.S. — a remarkable price for a product with next-gen wireless.

North America is in second place, with around 15% of shipments, while EMEA and Asia Pacific (sans Greater China) are projected to each make up around 11%. A 5G-enabled iPhone 12 should help speed up adoption as well, when it’s launched in the next month or so.

“Smartphone vendors have relentlessly pushed new product launches, as well as online marketing and sales during the post-lockdown period, generating strong consumer interest for the latest gadgets,” analyst  Ben Stanton says in a release. “Gradual reopening of offline stores, improving logistics and production have provided necessary uplift for most markets to move into a more stabilized second half of 2020.”

5G was expected to have a rebounding effect for the industry — though the pandemic quickly hampered those plans. Likely it has gone a ways toward helping prohibit a further slide in sales. And numbers are still expected to rebound somewhat in the 2021, at 9.9% year over year. That’s not quite enough to return things to pre-2020 levels, but would no doubt be a welcome sign for an industry that has shown signs of decline for some time now.
